Welcome and thank you for taking the initiative to engage with your child’s faith formation through The Way.
This resource is for the 4th Grade “10 Commandments” year of The Way: Youth to Young Adult Initiative.
To participate in this program, you must register here:
www.IfULoveMe.org/Parent-Registration
This ensures that you receive the monthly emails that are an important part of this course.
At the end of this course, you will also receive a link to submit a survey that records your completion of this requirement.
A primary goal of The Way is to help parents discuss the Catholic Faith with their kids. The activities of the Ten Commandments Year help you accomplish this.
Studies show that, more than any other factor, this parent-child interaction has the greatest influence in children continuing the practice once they leave the home and enter young adulthood.
Why? Because being a family that talks about faith when your kids are young is the best way to be a family that talks about faith when your kids get older.
As you encounter the challenges of teen years, the communication that you have established will allow you to guide them toward adulthood using the bedrock principles of our Catholic Faith.
The Ten Commandments are part of that bedrock, building the foundation of a relationship with God.
Some parents may worry that they will not know enough to be able to teach their children the faith. Don’t let this be a concern!
In 4th Grade, the subject matter isn’t difficult. You don’t need to know a lot to do this. You only need to know how to talk to your kids.
Read the booklet on your own and discuss it together as a couple, or reflect on your own and figure out what you want to say. Then, bring it down to the appropriate level and discuss it with your child as a family.
You know your child the best. Adapt the discussion in the way that is most useful for them. You can end with the family activity.
Below is a short video introducing Bishop’s vision for The Way that we hope you will enjoy watching.
